What is a Podiatrist?

Podiatrists are healthcare professionals who have been trained to diagnose and treat abnormal conditions of the feet, ankles and lower limbs. Podiatrists treat and alleviate day-to-day foot problems, including toenail problems, such as thickened toenails, fungal nail infections or ingrown toenails, corns and calluses, heel and arch pain, balance issues, etc.

Podiatrists can also treat foot problems that arise from underlying medical conditions such as diabetes and arthritis. Podiatric recommendations might include specific exercises, the use of custom-made inserts for your shoes, or medications to treat skin conditions. Some podiatrists specialise in different areas of practice, including sports, children and workplace health.
